Her son’s homework has paid off for Mrs. Herman Payne, Foster.
Mrs. Payne won $205 on the San Fransisco television program “Telecast” by answering the question “What European country owns the northernmost colony in the world?”
Her answer, Denmark, which owns Greenland, was correct but she said she never would have known it if she hadn’t helped her son Mike with his world history homework.
Mike Payne is a sophomore at Sweet Home Union High School.
Evergreen Helicopters Inc. has added a second helicopter, according to Vernon Geil, president.
The second machine, a Hiller 12-C, was obtained in Alaska, as a salvage ship. It is being rebuilt in the company’s shop here, and they expect to have it flying in 30 days, Geil said.
The company’s original helicopter, obtained last year, has been out of operation for a major overhaul, but they expect to have it in operation again Friday, he said. The company uses the helicopters for contract work and have a contract to do spraying in Lane County.

White’s Electronics of Sweet Home received an award Monday from United Way of Linn County “in appreciation of the company’s corporate generosity” during the 1983 campaign.
The company printed the United Way stationery, ledger sheets, letterheads, envelopes, memo pads, business cards, 20,000 campaign brochures and 24 agency posters in its in-house print shop.
Coordinator of the project was Wanda Gloude, production planner at White’s. Gloude worked closely with United Way during a four- month period.
Mary McDonald defeated Robert C. Pascalar, Jr., in the only contested race for position on the Sweet Home school board in the March 27 election.
McDonald received 557 votes, while Pascalar’s total was 390 in the contest for the four year term as member at large, position 8.
Instead of a Sportsman’s Holiday Queen this year, the board of directors of Sweet Home’s annual festival has decided to choose a Calapooia Roundup Queen and Court.
The Sportsman’s Holiday Court was not making money, said Norm Suiter, Sportsman’s Holiday chairman, and the steering committee felt that if Sweet Home is to have an annual celebration it must make a profit to survive, even though the profit is put back into the festival.
