Huskies down No. 1 Central, Philomath

The Huskies defeated Philomath 62-52 in boys basketball on the road Friday night.

The Huskies trailed18-16 after the first quarter, but bounced back quickly to lead the rest of the game. The Huskies led 32-25 at halftime and 45-35 at the end of the third quarter.

A Philomath run brought the Warriors within one point during the final quarter, but scoring at the foul line, the Huskies were able to rebuild their lead by the end.

On Jan. 12, the Huskies gave top-ranked Central its first loss of the season, winning 50-48.

Central held a 16-13 lead after one quarter and caught fire in the second quarter to lead 29-23 by halftime. The Huskies expanded their lead to 39-27 by the end of the third. Central outscored the Huskies 19-11 in the final quarter but it wasn’t enough.

Sweet Home is 11-2, and after last week’s performance, the Huskies have replaced Central at the top of the coaches poll and OregonLive poll. Central, 14-1, is ranked second.
