Norma Marie Trumm, 85, of Oregon City, died March 11, 2010 in Oregon City.
She was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Marion, S.D., to Frank and Ruth (Carlson) Bittner. Most recently, she lived in Oregon City, after being a resident of Sweet Home from 1974 to 2007. She graduated from Marion High School during World War II in 1943 and received her diploma in nursing from Presentation Sisters College in Aberdeen, S.D. in 1945. She spent many of her early years nursing children with polio in the 1940s in Petoskey, Mich.
In 1954, she married Air Force Airman First Class, Dean A. Trumm at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb. Mrs. Trumm continued to live in Omaha from 1954 to 1968, working as nurse until 1959 and then as a homemaker, raising her sons Michael, born in 1955, Bruce, born in 1961, and David, born in 1964.
Mrs. Trumm’s husband began a new career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1968, they moved from Omaha to Chamberlain, S.D.. In 1973, they moved to Hermiston, for Mr. Trumm’s job as a lock operator for USACE. In 1974, they moved to Sweet Home where Mr. Trumm worked as an power plant operator at Foster Dam.
During their time living in Sweet Home, Mrs. Trumm enjoyed the view of Foster Lake from their home on Riggs Hill and crafted their yard into a beautiful gardening wonder with her ever-present green thumb. She loved to travel and visit unique places in their adventures.
She used these travels and life experiences to instill proper values in her children, who were taught to live by God’s Golden Rule to “treat others as you would want to be treated.”
During her life in Sweet Home, Mrs. Trumm was an active member of the Sweet Home United Methodist Church, ladies bridge club, OSU Extension Service, along with hobbies in traveling, camping, fishing, gardening, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Trumm of Chamberlain, S.D., Bruce Trumm of Winchester, Va., and David Trumm of Oregon City; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Harold Bittner, in 1973; and her husband, Dean A. Trumm, in 1982.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18th at the Oregon City Evangelical Church located at 1024 Linn Ave., Oregon City.
