Mat Club wrestlers place in state tourney

Twelve Sweet Home Mat Club wrestlers placed at the Oregon Kids State Tournament held Jan. 27-28 at the Expo Center in Redmond.

Bailey Chafin was the only state champion, placing first in the Novice Girls 78-pound division.

Jake Sieminski placed second at Schoolboy 77 pounds.

Third-place finishers were: Sam Barringer at Bantam 62; Jesse Landtroop at Intermediate 53; Brayden Newport at Cadet 132; Lynkin Royer at Intermediate 130; Ethan Spencer at Schoolboy 119; and Paige Chafin at Schoolgirl 119.

Fourth-placers were: Tytus Hardee at Novice 63; Luke Rosa at Intermediate 84; Kaden Zajic at Schoolboy 102; and Tucker Weld at Cadet 182.

Ashton Swanson was fifth at Novice 98 and Kyle Zajic was sixth at Intermediate 63.

Also wrestling in the tournament for Sweet Home were Jackson Barringer, Bryce Chafin, Jeremiah Gill, Christian Gregory, Jacob Landtroop, Liam Vaughn, Macen Rosa, Cody Sieminski, Riley Vaughn and Jasper Victor.

Oregon Classic

Seven Sweet Home Mat Club and two Sweet Home Junior High wrestlers came away with medals from the Oregon Classic tournament on Jan. 13.

Bailey Chafin was the highest place-winner, taking first in the girls 84-pound Intermediate division. Paige Chafin was third at 110 in the Schoolgirl division.

Sam Barringer was the highest placewinner for the boys, taking second at 62 pounds in the Bantam division.

Cody Sieminski was fourth at 45 pounds in Bantam and Jacob Sieminski was fourth at 77 in Schoolboy.

Luke Rosa was sixth at 84 pounds in Intermediate and Tytus Hardee was sixth at 63 pounds in Novice.

In the Cadet (junior high-aged) division, Brayden Newport was fourth at 132 pounds and Christian Gregory was fifth at 106.
