An alert homeowner saved a house from severe fire damage Sunday morning with an early-morning call to the Fire Department.
Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District personnel were dispatched at 7:18 a.m. to a fire at 43554 Wiley Creek Drive, where they saw smoke coming out of a wall.
“Essentially, what we had was burned studs around an electrical box,” Fire Chief Dave Barringer said. “The thing I like is that the homeowner called in early.”
Firefighters were able to use a heat imaging camera to quickly locate the fire and put it out.
“It saves money, it sames time,” Barringer said.
“Smoke detectors make a big difference. An alert homeowner got us there faster.”
He said SHFAD has had “more and more” such situations, in which residents realize they have a problem and call right away.
SHFAD’s response included Engine 21, a battalion chief and two tenders.
“We got out of there in an hour. That’s a good day,” Barringer said.
