    This past week the Sweet Home Police Department (SHPD) released their statistics for 2023 and according to Police Chief Jason Ogden, it's been a busy year but statistically speaking a better year overall for crime. "In 2023, the total number of crimes reported in our town was 1917, marking a 9.55% increase from the 1743 crimes reported in 2022.     There was a single car accident at 1:36 pm on Sunday, January 28, at 43596 North River Drive. The driver, Aaron Nelson, age 21, of Sweet Home. The vehicle went off the roadway and over an embankment, striking a tree, and came to rest against a tree, approximately 50-60 feet down. Nelson was the only occupant in the vehicle.     Linn County’s Alcohol & Drug Department provided services to more than 1,151 individuals last year, director Justin Thomas told the Linn County Board of Commissioners Tuesday morning.
