Janice Sue “Umpy” Mason, 70, of Sweet Home died Dec. 14, 2007.
She was born Oct. 1, 1937 in Springfield, Mo., to Jesse and Lena Mae (Knott) Comer, the youngest of 11 children. She lived in Scio for many years as a child. Her family moved to Sweet Home when she was a teen and she graduated from Sweet Home Union High School. She has lived in Sweet Home ever since.
Mrs. Mason did daycare for many years and volunteered at the VFW. She loved scary movies, bingo, Yahtzee and cooking. She loved to take day trips to the coast to watch the sunset.
She is survived by three children, Kevin Mason of Sweet Home, Lance Mason and wife Bonnie of Sweet Home and Jennie Mason-Inerfeld of Albany; five grandchildren; her extended family at Caring Hands, where she lived for the last 10 years; and two sisters, Alberta of Missouri and Marian “Tiny” of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
A memorial service was held Dec. 18 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel.
