Loyd Louis Sloan, 81, of Sweet Home, died Aug. 28, 2008 at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 10, 1926 in Spring Valley, Ark. to James Louis and Virginia (Vanderpool) Sloan.
He grew up on a farm in Wesley, Ark., one of nine boys and two sisters.
He served in the Army during World War II, from January 1945 to September 1946 in the Asiatic Pacific.
In October 1946 he married Dorene Burdick in Fayetteville, Ark. In 1947 they moved to Tonasket, Wash. Then they later moved to Sweet Home, making this their home.
Mr. Sloan worked in the woods and then at Cascade Handle Co. until retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Dorene; daughters Leah Hart of Memphis, Tenn. and Ruth Lytle of Las Vegas, Nev.; brothers Lawrence Sloan of Sweet Home, Bill Sloan of Belle Plaine, Kan., John Sloan of Niland, Calif., Walter Sloan of Winfield, Kan., and Leonard Sloan of Wesley, Ark.; and sister Ruby Lindabury of Mulvane, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; three brothers, Roy Sloan of Branch, Ark., Lester Sloan of Wesley, Ark. and Don Sloan of Alachua, Fla.; and a sister, Wilma Laningham of Fayetteville, Ark.
Viewing will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Church of Christ, 3702 East Long St. in Sweet Home. Funeral service will follow the viewing at 10 a.m.
