Ally Farrell, Hannah Nicholson and Valeri Gingerich test oxygenation in a water sample taken from the South Santiam River, during a Salmon Watch field trip Friday morning at Wiley Creek Park. About 50 students, which included sixth-graders and a fifth- and sixth-grade blended class, from Oak Heights attended the program. Salmon Watch provides free field trips for sixth-grade students to learn about salmon and watershed health at a series of field stations led by trained volunteers, who included Roxy Miller, Wolf Krebs and Hank LaVigne Friday. The stations include water quality, riparian forests, biology and aquatic macroinvertebrates.
