A 77-year-old Crawfordsville woman died after catching fire and suffering burns last week.
“We went on a medical call in Crawfordsville,” said Fire Chief Dave Barringer. “It was (for) unknown burns. The patient was deceased on arrival.”
Medics and deputies responded to 38185 Courtney Creek Drive at 3:56 p.m. Wednesday, March 6.
Theda Morris, 77, “went out to the burn pile and started a fire,” said Sheriff Jim Yon. It was routine for her. “She either fell in or her blouse caught on fire.”
Morris attempted to get to a hose, Yon said, but it wasn’t hooked up and she perished.
Deputies investigated, Yon said, and “we had the medical examiner out there.”
The investigation is continuing, primarily with lab work, Yon said. Investigators do not suspect foul play, he said. “It looks like it’s just a tragic accident,” Yon said.
