The New Era - All about Sweet Home since 1929

George Howard Boughner

April 30, 2014

July 2, 1930 - April 12, 2014

George was born to the late Howard and Evelyn Boughner, July 2, 1930, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He was raised and educated in Saskatchewan. He received a BA in Psychology and some years later he received a Fellowship from the Insurance Institute of Canada. He met and married Rae Etta Burningham in 1967.

George loved to travel and meet new people. They lived in Canada, the United States, New Zealand, and several places up and down the western coast of Canada and the United States, but called Sweet Home, Oregon their hometown.

George was an insurance adjuster for more than 40 years. He taught his wife how to be his assistant and together they would go to areas hit hard by storms, such as Hurricane Andrew, and as a team they would work together adjusting and settling claims for insurance companies in that area..

When George was a child (10 – 12) he would go hunting and fishing on a regular basis and bring home fresh meat to his Mom and Dad as well as many of his neighbors. For some he was their only source. It was always pan ready. George would never give someone a fish or a duck that had not been cleaned.

He and his son Bill (14 at the time) enjoyed coaching youth hockey (7 year olds) together, in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

George is survived by his wife Rae Etta, of 46-plus years, and six children: Laurie Bean, Lisa Chamberlin, and Kathy Zirk of Saskatchewan; Canada. Bill Boughner of Sweet Home, Oregon; Van Boughner of Santa Cruz, California; and Epsi Ping, of Sacramento, California. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved them all.

A memorial will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Jim Riggs Community Center, 878 18th Ave., Sweet Home, OR, with the graveside service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Gilliland Cemetery in Sweet Home.

If you would like to send cards or flowers, please send them to 4988 Locust Ct., Sweet Home, OR 97386.
