Mary E. Nelson, 95, of Sweet Home died March 21, 2015.

She was born March 22, 1919 in Lexington to Roy and Helen (Kirk) Tyler. She died three hours before her 96th birthday.

She moved to Willamina about 1922, then to West Stayton in 1928, on to North Santiam/Berlin area in 1932 and finally to Mountain Home, near Liberty, about 1938. She lived in Mountain Home area ever since except for 11 years when her family lived in Alaska at the Tyler Brothers Logging Camp, where her husband Ed worked as a mechanic for her brothers.

Mrs. Nelson graduated from Lebanon High School in 1937 and worked at the Old Lebanon Hospital started by the Schuler sisters for about a year. She then attended beauty college in Salem and worked at Pearl’s beauty shop in Sweet Home for many years. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Waterloo Chapel.

She loved gardening, reading the Bible and good books, working in the yard and going on outings with her sisters and nieces. She loved to have people over and was a wonderful hostess.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by her children, Steve and his wife Willow Nelson of Sweet Home, Phil Nelson of Lebanon and Mark Nelson of Alaska; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, all of Sweet Home; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ed in 2001; infant son David in 1951; and 10 siblings.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice or Waterloo Chapel.

A memorial service was held March 28 at the Waterloo Chapel in Lebanon.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
