SWEET HOME POLICE Officer Mark Birkett talks with a dispatcher while investigating a crash in the parking lot of Ames Creek Storage. Police and medics responded to the crash at 3:20 p.m. on Sunday. Medics treated driver Terrance Tiessen, 52, for minor cuts on the arm and neck. Sgt. Jason Van Eck said that Tiessen had picked up his son’s 1997 Ford Escort, which hadn’t been driven in a year. Heading south on Ninth Avenue, the brakes failed. Instead of traveling onto Main Street and risking a crash with another vehicle, the driver turned into the parking lot and hit the guardrail.
