Victor Fletcher Schilling, 79, of Sweet Home died April 16, 2015.

He was born Nov. 28, 1935 in The Dalles to Victor Frederick and Frances Mae (Kershner) Schilling.

Mr. Schilling grew up in The Dalles and learned how to work hard at home and in the fields. ‘He was involved with Boy Scouts and became an Eagle Scout. In his younger years he also enjoyed martial arts and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

In the Army, he became a paratrooper in the Special Forces. He was stationed in Germany and deployed to Southeast Asia in preparation of the Vietnam War. He also served in Vietnam.

Mr. Schilling married Irene Hilliard May 6, 1961. He worked as a supervisor for Georgia Pacific in Fort Bragg, Calif. as a journeyman machinist and retired after 17 years. They returned to Holley in 1995 where Mr. Schilling owned and operated the Holley Market for several years.

He is survived by his children, Linda Duran of Lebanon, Sidney Marks, Vicky Arreguin and Darrell Schilling, all of Sweet Home; siblings Irene Knight, Madeline Kalhar and Charla Dinnocenzo, all of Gresham, Merritt Schilling of Brownsville, William Schilling of Sweet Home, Janis Gilmore of Vancouver, Wash., and Donald Schilling of Sweet Home; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Schilling was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Thelma Irene (Hilliard) Schilling, in 2011; parents Victor Schilling and Frances Mae Schilling in 2011; sister Donna Epperson; one niece and four nephews.

Viewing will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Sweet Home. Final burial and military honors will follow at Liberty Cemetery.
