In a hard-fought state playoff contest Thursday, the Sweet Home Midget Federal team, ages 9-10, lost to Westview of Portland 12-9.

Friday, the team played Clackamas in a back-and-forth ball game broken open by a two-run homerun by Huston Holly, the youngest member of the team.

Sweet Home won 20-11.

On Satuday, Sweet Home lost 11-5 to the eventual state champion, West Albany.

“The kids never gave up,” said Coach Tim Holly. “West Albany’s Coach came over after the game and told the boys thatwhen they played Sweet Home, they knew they were in for a fight because the kids never give up.”

Every player on the team had at least one hit in the state tournament against some of the best pitchers in the state, Holly said. “It was a great season. Us coaches were extremely proud of the boys for a very successful season.

“I would like to thank all the parents and our sponsors for their support, which made this season possible.”
