Council approves levy requests for police, library for ballot

The Sweet Home City Council last week approved two local option levy renewal requests for the November ballot that would help recover tax revenue uncollected due to property tax “compression.”

If voters approve, the police levy would increase by $1.45, from $6.40 to $7.85 per $1,000 of assessed property value. The library levy would increase 35 cents, from 82 cents to $1.17 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

With other taxing districts increasing rates and the addition of new property taxes since 2007, the city has seen its share of property tax revenue fall for law enforcement....
