Swimmers deliver ‘strongest meet’ of year against coast power Newport

Sweet Home’s boys swept all the events in a three-way swimming meet with Newport and Stayton Friday, Jan. 29, and the girls took all but one relay.

Newport, though not in Sweet Home’s district, was invited because the Cubs are one of the better teams in the Coast District, Coach Doug Peargin said. The meet was also supposed to include Sisters, but the Outlaws were turned back by bad weather.

The Huskies outscored Newport 174-82 on the girls side and 155.5-135.5 on the boys’. Peargin said the competition prompted a response from Sweet Home’s swimmers.
