April 12, 2016

Sweet Home’s golfers are still on the rise.

The Huskies shot 422 on Thursday, April 7, at Langdon Farms in North Marion to better their previous best team score by 15 strokes.

Sophomore Seth Wright shot a 98, his best round ever, to lead the team. Jake Hindmarsh finished with a 103 and Dawson Guzman was right behind with a 104, the only Huskies to finish close to 100.

Sweet Home finished sixth out of eighth, but Coach Pat Davis noted they were four strokes out of fifth place and eight strokes out of fourth.

“We were in it,” he said. Sutherlin took the team title with a 365.

Sweet Home’s junior varsity and girls played Tuesday, April 5, at Diamond Woods in Junction City.

Haley May and Alyana Davis were the only girls playing in the 46-man junior varsity field.

May, a sophomore, shot a 98 to finish second and Davis, also a sophomore, finished eighth with a 108.

Freshman Zach Rivera, in his first 18-hole tournament, shot a 120 to finish in the middle of the pack, Pat Davis said.

The boys varsity will play Friday, April 15, at Agate Beach in Newport, before hosting their only home tournament of the year Tuesday, April 19. Golfers tee off at 11 a.m.

The junior varsity and girls will play Wednesday, April 13, at Middlefield in Cottage Grove.
