Suspected explosive device turns out to be illegal firework

OREGON STATE POLICE Bomb Squad members return to their vehicle with a suspected explosive device, right, that turned out to be an illegal firework in a plastic container.

Oregon State Police Bomb Squad members responded Tuesday, Aug. 30, to a suspected explosive device found at the intersection of Long Street and Mountain View Road.

Sweet Home Police Chief Jeff Lynn said police received a report at 10:28 a.m. from a citizen who had been walking in the area. An officer responded and located the item on the southeast corner of the intersection, near the sidewalk. Lynn said it was the size of a milk jug and had a fuse extending from it.

Both Long Street and Mountain View Road at the intersection were closed for approximately three hours, for safety concerns....
