Norman Ray Updegrave

Oct. 3, 1934 - Sept. 1, 2016

Norman Ray Updegrave, 81, eldest son of Marion and Norman Updegrave Sr., brother to Ethel Porter and Philip Updegrave, loving husband to LaVelle Updegrave (almost 64 years), dedicated father to Janelle, Robin, Frank and Joni, caring grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of six, passed on in the evening of Sept. 1, 2016.

Norman was in his home, surrounded by family and embraced by love.

Norman deeply touched the lives and hearts of so many. His friends and family are left with a sadness so enormous it is only softened by the infinite love he so generously shared with all of them.

Second to time with loved ones, Norman enjoyed driving trucks, hard work and watching planes and boats come and go. He also appreciated classic cars, lighthouses and good food. In younger years he enjoyed playing sports as well as hunting and fishing.

Above all else, Norm was totally and completely devoted to his wife and family. He was the epitome of selflessness. Norman was kind, encouraging and had a smile for all who crossed his path. Through his daily actions, Norm consistently exemplified his life’s motto, “Treat the other guy the way you would want to be treated.” For all who loved Norm the world will be a duller place without his warm, friendly smile to brighten our way.

Please join us at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at River of Life Fellowship, 1658 Long St., Sweet Home, to celebrate Norman’s life.
