Lelia “Lee” Mae Cole, 94, of Sweet Home died Sept. 22, 2016 at Wiley Creek Community.

She was born Nov. 27, 1921 in Sweet Home to James and Vera (Coulter) Morehead.

After graduating from Sweet Home High School, she attended Albany College in Portland. World War II interrupted her studies and she went to work at Columbia Aircraft. There she met Jay Cole, her beloved husband for 71 years.

Mrs. Cole worked at the State of Oregon Board of Health from 1944 until 1949. When her younger son started school, she returned to college at Lewis and Clark and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education.

She taught at Richmond School in Portland for 17 years. Upon retirement, the Coles moved back to Sweet Home, where Mrs. Cole was active in her church, PEO, ADK and calligraphy classes.

She is survived by her sons, James Cole of Wright, N.Y. and David Cole of Portland; and a granddaughter.

A celebration of life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Gilliland Cemetery.

Ramona Jepson

Aug. 11, 1927 – Sept. 21, 2016

Ramona M. Jepson, 89, a former longtime resident of Sweet Home, late of Forest Grove, died Sept. 21, 2016 at the Jennings McCall II Assisted Living Center in Forest Grove.

She was born Aug. 11, 1927 in Roosevelt, Utah, the daughter of the late Eugene Dieter and Margaret (Carruth) Dieter. She was raised and received her education in the Roosevelt community, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1945.

She married John “Junior” Jepson on June 18, 1948 in Vancouver, Wash.

Following their marriage the Jepsons resided for many years in Tillamook before moving to Roosevelt for five years. After Mr. Jepson’s death, on Jan. 1, 1985 in Roosevelt, following more than 36 years of marriage, Mrs. Jepson returned to Tillamook, then later lived in the communities of Seaside, Willamina and Sweet Home before moving to Hillsboro in 2011 to reside with her son and daughter-in-law. She eventually moved to the Jennings McCall Retirement Community, where she resided until her death.

Mrs. Jepson was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and volunteered with the youth programs. She was also a member of the Toastmistresses in Tillamook.

Among her special interests were gardening and caring for her flowers.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Jerry and Bonnie Jepson of McMinn-ville; Loretta Snider of Springfield; Steven Jepson of Sweet Home, and Debbie and Barry Caulder of Sweet Home; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her husband; parents Eugene and Margaret Dieter; and by her seven brothers and sisters.

James Walker

June 30, 1941 – Sept. 22, 2016

James Jay Walker, 75, of Sweet Home, died Sept. 22, 2016 at his home.

He was born June 30, 1941 in Orlando, Fla. to Ding and Dorothy (Marotz) Walker.

Mr. Walker grew up in Clayton, Calif., where he worked for and retired from Pacific Gas and Electric Company. He worked as a lineman. He relocated to Oregon after retirement.

He was an amateur radio operator in California under the call letters K6RTT. When he moved to Oregon, he eventually changed his call to W7RTT.

Mr. Walker enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his friends. He will be missed by his family and his fellow hams and friends.

He is survived by a brother, Connie Walker of New England; sisters Dawn Lieder of Virginia and Sharon Brooks of Arizona; an uncle, Charles Marotz, and an aunt Elsie Manzer, both of California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Adelbert Walker of Oregon, and mother Dorothy Johnson of Tennessee.
