Doris May Conklin, 87, of Sweet Home died Oct. 8, 2016 in Portland.

She was born July 4, 1929 in Deep River, Iowa to Eugene and Verna Jean Lela (Chapman) Hollingsworth.

She moved to Oregon when she was 6 and spent her early years in Corvallis. She married Rolland Conklin on June 10, 1945 and moved to Sweet Home a year later.

The Conklins resided in Sweet Home for the next 68 years.

Mrs. Conklin enjoyed quilting and reading. She loved the company of family and friends.

Mr. Conklin died in 2014. Mrs. Conklin was injured in a fall three months later and resided in an adult home until her death.

She is survived by her son, Eugene Conklin of Rickreall; daughters Christine Ford of Portland, Carolyn Martin of Kelso, Wash., and Catherine Herstad of Gig Harbor, Wash.; sister Edith Murry of Azle, Texas; brother John W. McDowell of the Philippines; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2014; sisters Verna Gene Leder in 1999, and Nellie Christianson in 2001.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sweet Home Senior Center.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
