Junior Britney Zook Saturday became the first cheerleader in the history of the Sweet Home High School program to place first two years in a row at the Oregon Cheerleading Coaches Association All-State Competition.

Zook competed Saturday at Thurston among 28 individuals competing in the 1A to 4A division at Thurston High School.

Senior Erin Bauer finished in second place, and senior Ilima Kaauwai-Walker finished seventh.

With their placement, they qualify as part of the all-state team.

Also competing as individuals were freshman Shelby Goodwin, who placed 10th, and junior Ashley Bailey, who placed 11th.

In the 1A to 4A All-Girl Stunt Division, Sweet Home placed first and second among 13 teams.

“They did awesome, super good, as good as we really could have expected,” said Coach Amber Rosa. Three individuals made the all-state team, and the two stunt groups placed the highest. The Huskies took home the most hardware of any school at the competition.

With their cheer season complete, the cheerleaders are preparing for the competitive season, which begins in January, and for the basketball cheer season.
