SH girls fall to Phoenix, NV, in hoops

December 13, 2016

Sweet Home’s girls lost road games to Phoenix 79-33 Friday night, Dec. 9, and to North Valley 57-16 Saturday night in girls basketball.

“They’re two solid programs – established,” said Coach Dave McNeil. North Valley was state champion in 2014.

“Defensively, we’re looking better,” McNeil said. “We’re actually playing pretty strong defensive ball.”

The Huskies struggled offensively, he said, particularly shooting and taking care of the ball.

“Rebounding was pretty good,” he said. “It’s just being able to execute on offense.”

The team was short four players on the overnight trip to southern Oregon, McNeil said. Of those, three are among the team’s strongest players.

“That created issues and also created trickle-down exhaustion,” he said, at both the varsity and junior varsity levels. A large number of the girls played five quarters at both levels.
