Evelyn May Light, 94, of Sweet Home died Dec. 17, 2016.

She was born March 2, 1922 in La Center, Wash., to George O. and Francis I. (Franklin) Thomas.

She married Vernon Light Oct. 25, 1947 in Salem.

Mrs. Light was a shipyard welder during World War II and a Rosie the Riveter.

She was an avid stamp collector since childhood and later collected coins as well. She loved her flower and vegetable gardens and spent many free-time hours doing embroidery and crochet.

Mrs. Light is survived by sons Ronald and daughter-in-law Colleen Light, and Steven Light; daughter Jean Light; brothers Lewis and sister-in-law Peggy Thomas, David and sister-in-law Luella Thomas, Lonnie and sister-in-law Linda Thomas; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Light; brother Harold Thomas; sisters Elaine Koos, Georgia Heyder, Waunita Bell Thomas, Rose Mary McCann and Vera Marlene Thomas.

A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
