Michael Edward Miller of Sweet Home died peacefully Dec. 19, 2016 at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany.

Mr. Miller was born Aug. 25, 1943 in Portland to Donna Carolyn Foudray Freitas and Edward Matthew Miller. He grew up in Portland and Northern California. He served in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 31, 1960 to July 22, 1964, then served as a U.S. Merchant Marine from August 1964 to June 1972.

During Mr. Miller’s working life, he was an electrician and was employed at Wah Chang and Trus Joist MacMillan before finally retiring from Ore-Met/ATI in Albany.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and all of the beauty of the outdoors that Oregon has to offer.

He volunteered as an AARP driving instructor and also enjoyed playing cards.

Mr. Miller is survived by his partner, Jamie Shaw of Sweet Home; daughters Amberly Miller and Julie Swanson; three grandchildren; siblings Jolee, Holly Dunye, Gary and Dean Freitas; and dear friend Steve Pitts of Albany that he constantly harassed; and his dog “Spankey.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donna and Edward; and older sister Kimi.

Per his wishes, no funeral or service will be held.
