Breakfast to feature

top weightlifter

River of Life Fellowship will host a men’s breakfast at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at 8 am at 1658 Long St. featuring guest speaker Jim Masterfield.

Masterfield is a former weightlifter and bodybuilder who competed at National Physique Committee’s Masters Nationals in 1994 and ranked third in the world with a bench press of 590 pounds.

Genealogists to hear

about honor flights

Sweet Home Genealogical Society will hold its monthly general meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, at the SHGS Library, 1223 Kalmia St.

Guest speaker Mike Pungercar, will present a slide show about the Honor Flights. A World War II Navy veteran who has been on an Honor Flight may accompany him.

Bible studies for

women next week

A Community-Wide Women’s Bible Study will begin the week of Jan 23 throughout the Willamette Valley.

The topic will be "Journey to Your Promised Land,” taught by Priscilla Shirer, who appeared in the movie "War Room.”

Sweet Home meeting times and places are held at:

- Hillside Fellowship Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m.;

- Sweet Home Assembly of God Tuesday from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; and

- Sweet Home Evangelical Church Wednesday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m..

Free help for kids with hyper-activity

Samaritan Neuropsychology – Albany is offering free classes for children who have challenges with attention and/or over-activity, and their parents or guardians.

The SM*ART program includes four weekly classes, and is designed to teach skills to help manage symptoms of inattention and over-active behavior for children ages 7 to 11. Classes provide information on behavioral skills then offer the opportunity to engage in an art project with your child that relates to what was taught in the class.

Four-week sessions begin in January, March, May and August. Parents and children are asked to attend each class in a four-week session.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The lunch menu on Friday, Jan 20, is roast turkey with gravy or BBQ smokehouse chop, both with whipped sweet potatoes, green beans with red peppers, wheat bread and ice cream cup.

The menu for Monday, Jan 23, is turkey divan bake or early American goulash, both with green peas, pickled beets, bran rye roll and zucchini brownie.

The menu for Tuesday, Jan 24, is turkey loaf with gravy or country steak with gravy, both with whipped potatoes, Capri blend vegetables, wheat bread and orange whip.
