Donald James Davenport, 94, of Sweet Home died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017.

He was born Dec. 25, 1922 in Halletsville, Texas, to Albert and Mary Jane (Morley) Davenport.

He was raised in the Halletsville area.

Mr. Davenport served in the United States Navy during World War II and received several combat commendations.

After he retired from the Navy, Mr. Davenport raised his family and lived for 20 years in Escondido, Calif. He lived in Corvallis for 30 years and spent the last five years in Sweet Home.

He and his wife loved to dance. He enjoyed bowling and telling stories and loved to travel.

Mr. Davenport is survived by his children, David Davenport of Sweet Home, John Davenport of Yucca Valley, Calif., and Nancy Fugate of Corpus Christi, Texas; sister Mildred Boethel of Halletsville, Texas; eight grandsons; two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Davenport in 1997; second wife, Minnie Davenport in 2013; and sister Ruth Smith.

Services will be planned for spring.
