Claude Milton Jones

Claude Milton Jones, 76, of Sweet Home passed away peacefully in his sleep from Alzheimer’s disease on Jan. 13, at Bridge Creek Memory Care in Lebanon.

He was born in Anacortes, Wash., to Charles Milton and Grace Edith Jones.

He was raised in Portland and moved to Sweet Home in 1955. He attended Sweet Home High School and graduated in 1959. He was a high jumper on the track team.

Mr. Jones served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963, serving mostly at sea on oil ships as a radio man. He boxed and played volleyball while in the military, standing out in the ring.

At age 24, he married Linda Louise Johnson. They lived in Sweet Home. He worked on the Green Peter Dam and then in the lumber industry.

In 1980, Mr. Jones went to work for the Sweet Home School District and retired in 2000.

His loves in life were God, family, church family, bow hunting, fishing, friends and his dogs. His favorite spot in the world was knee-deep in the South Santiam River below Foster Dam, with a fishing pole in his hand.

Mr. Jones is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Kyla and son-in-law Todd Jutte; three grandsons, Dillin Bulman, Tre-vor Bulman and Hunter Jutte; brother-in-law Larry Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother Don Workman; and son-in-law Denny Bulman.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Valley Life Church, 90 E. Vine St., Lebanon.
