Reta Elizabeth Braaten, 72, of Sweet Home died Feb. 8, 2017.

She was born May 11, 1944 in Spokane, Wash. to Thomas Malcolm and Norma Elizabeth (Soderstrom) Pace.

She served in the United States Army as a cryptologist during the early 1960s. She has lived in San Diego, Calif., Vancouver, Wash., Chicago, Ill., Arlington, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nev. before moving to Sweet Home in 1994.

Mrs. Braaten retired from working for the state of Oregon in the Sweet Home Vocational Rehabilitation office.

She loved reading, cooking and traveling.

Reta is survived by her husband Donald Braaten of Sweet Home; children Lorraine Forbes of Las Vegas, Nev., Denise Salvador of Sweet Home, April Reckling of Las Vegas, Nev., Matthew Forbes of Bethlehem, Penn.; step-children Lyle Braaten and Denise Rochelle Braaten-Burrow; sister Kaye Gorham of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by step-daughter Dawn Ann Slay.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.
