(Oct. 25, 1954 - March 21, 2017) Ricky Jay Parent, 62, of Albany, formerly of Sweet Home, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017.

He was born at Langmack Hospital in Sweet Home to Andrew and Vera Maxine (Collins) Parent.

He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1973 and attended Linn Benton Community College for two years where he took culinary classes. He went to work at Grizzley Bear Pizza Parlor in Albany and then later moved to Hazel Dell, Washington, where he managed a Grizzley Bear Pizza Parlor.

Ricky was in a serious car accident at the age of 25, which changed his life. He could no longer work and moved back to Sweet Home, where he lived with his parents. He traveled with his parents to many places in the United States and Canada. They also went on many camping trips.

As a young boy Ricky did a lot of different jobs. He mowed lawns, had a paper route and ran the projector at the Rio Theater.

He enjoyed music, played the guitar and was a big fan of the Beatles. He thought the world of his family and especially his nieces and nephews.

Ricky is survived by sisters Patty and husband Dale Hall of Albany, and Peggy and husband Jack Banta of Roseburg; brother Randy Parent of Albany; nieces and nephews Kim Bishop of Portland, Tracy Bishop of California, Kristin Slocum of Portland, and Brian and wife Jamie Banta of Roseburg; great-niece Maya Banta of Roseburg; and great-nephews Jack Banta of Roseburg and Sean Slocum of Portland.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Viewing and funeral services were held March 27 at Sweet Home Funeral Chapel. Final burial was at Gilliland Cemetery.
