April 4, 2017

WRESTLING TEAM members are, in front from left, Tyrell Barren, Kyle Watkins, Jake Sieminski, Kyle Sieminski, Xander Ford, Ryker Hartsook, Trenton Smith, Alexander Kisselburg, Dylan Lutmer and Eathan Spencer. In the second row, from left, are Tristan Spencer, Kaden Zajic, Ryan Tyndall, Rusell Holly, Brody Burright, Skyler Speck, Jesse Jamison, Jaidon Rice and Daniel Goodwin. In rear, from left, are Brayden Newport, Paul Amrein, Tucker Weld, Tristan Calkins, Gavin Walberg, Alec Hartley, Jake Fanning, Megan Glover, Ava Roger and Coach Greg Newport. This was a good year for the Tigers, who won the regional and district tournaments for the second year in a row under Newport and assistants Clint Sieminski and Marshal Arndt, who, Newport said, were “great assets to the program.” Of the 14 Tigers who qualified for the district meet, none placed lower than fourth and SHJH finished with six district champions. “That was huge for us,” Newport said. Brayden Newport was the only Sweet Home wrestler to qualify for the state tournament, finishing second. He said the most improved wrestler was Alec Hartley, who in his first year in the sport placed at the district tournament.
