May Week at SHHS

May 9, 2017

Sweet Home High School celebrated May Week May 1-4 with customary dress-up days and other activities, culminating in the Thursday assembly and the Track Meet, in which the four classes competed for the Pride Trip to Oaks Park amusement park. The seniors edged out the sophomores for the win. Above left, sisters Elena, a senior, left, and Sarah, a sophomore, Hewitt arm wrestle during the morning May Court Assembly as judge Dustin Nichol keeps a close eye on things. At right, during the Pride Clean-Up effort, Allysa Davis and River Volker clean bookshelves in the library. Below right, junior Lauren Yon leads sophomore Stewart Curtis, center, and freshman Alice Ramsey, in the sponge relay, in which contestants carry water-soaked sponges from one bucket to another. Below, King Dillon Stutzman, left, and Queen Bracie Olson compete in the obstacle course race. At left, at the Track Meet, Brendan Hanna, center takes one for the seniors from Sydney Hooley and others during the water balloon sling shot event.

May Week Court members include, from left, Kylie Johnson, Tori Clark, John Shaver, Dana Hiett, Kobe Olson, Ilima Ka’auwai-Walker, King Dillon Stutzman, Queen Gracie Olson, Josh Rice, Jessica Coats, Nathan Hager, Chloe Newport, Wesley Parker and Elena Hewitt. Not pictured are Anakin Leyba and Sean Wolthuis. This year’s court was difficult to pin down, at least while they were all dressed up. After Stutzman and Olson were named king and queen at the morning assembly, four members immediately left for a mandatory AP test (in political science), which negated the traditional post-assembly photo of the court.
