Firefighters clean up hazardous materials spilled from an overturned log truck owned by PVT, Inc., on Highway 20 just east of the railroad trestle Thursday, June 8. Firefighters and police responded to the crash at 6011 Main St. at 3:30 p.m. Oregon State Police identified the driver as Elric Matthew Benson, 22. According to the Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District report, the driver told firefighters that a car in front of the westbound truck had to stop quickly when juveniles ran across the highway. The driver of the truck didn’t have time to stop quickly enough and veered right to avoid hitting the vehicle, hitting a guardrail and overturning as a result. Benson was able to exit the vehicle and was not injured, officials said. Photo by Miriam Swanson
