Singing Christmas Tree rehearsals

The Singing Christmas Tree is holding rehearsals for its 2017 performance year, themed “The Love of Christmas,” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays in the Sweet Home High School Choir Room.

Anyone over the age of 12 (seventh grade) may join. Participants are asked to commit themselves to the rehearsal schedule as much as possible. Consideration will be made for students active in sports or who have jobs that require attendance.

Adults are asked to be at a majority of the rehearsals. Roll-call sign-in will be taken at each rehearsal.

No fees are charged for choir members or volunteer assistants. All money for the Tree is received through grants and donations from the public or from businesses.

Opportunities for high school students and Sweet Home music alums to participate are also available.

Band, choral music and art and theater teachers at Sweet Home High School will have information on this program.

Last chance for square dance class

Square Dance classes begin from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at Oak Heights school gym on 6th St. and Elm St., Sweet Home.

Jim Voll will be the instructor. The first class is free. Sept. 24 is the last evening to start the class.

Casual attire is recommended and everyone is welcome.

Learn 5-2-1-0 at Lebanon hospital

Familiarize yourself with the 5-2-1-0 rule, an easy to launch health improvement effort at your workplace, church, school, community group, or family, in a free class offered from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital Conference Rooms 3 and 4.

Participants will learn the importance of five servings or more of fruits and vegetables, two hours or less of leisure screen time, one hour or more of physical activity, and zero sugary drinks. Materials needed to train groups will be provided. Space is limited. Register at

Shooting benefit for Rep. Sprenger

State Rep. Sherrie Sprenger will hold her annual fund-raiser “Meet us at the Range,” at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Albany Rifle & Pistol Club, 29999 Saddle Butte Road, in Shedd.

Jon Raymond will serve as range master. Light refreshments, firearms, ammunition and protective gear will be provided.

Lunch for would-be CASA volunteers

Court Appointed Special Advocates will hold a lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Samaritan Event Center, 605 Mullins Drive in Lebanon.

Meals on Wheels weekly menu

Meals on Wheels, also known as Your Table or Ours, offers lunch at the Sweet Home Community Center to seniors over 60 at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.

The Senior Center serves a separate lunch on Wednesdays.

First-time diners are invited to come in and have a free lunch to give it a try.

Suggested donation is $3.50. All meals are served with milk, coffee or tea upon request and diabetic desserts are available on request.

The menu on Friday, Sept. 22, is roast turkey or Salisbury patty, whipped potatoes with gravy, country trio vegetables, dill wheat bread and banana chocolate chip bar.

The menu on Monday, Sept. 25, is chicken tetrazzini or beef chili with beans, chuckwagon corn, creamy coleslaw, wheat dinner roll and rhubarb applesauce.

The menu on Tuesday, Sept. 26, is ground beef with noodles or sweet and sour chicken with brown rice, green peas, marinated spring garden salad, multigrain roll and seasonal fresh fruit.

Volunteers are needed for both kitchen help and meal delivery.
