September 20, 2017

Local triathlete Kambria Schumacher finished 17th in a field of 89 finishers in the Women’s 25-29 age group category at the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final championships in Rotterdam, the Netherlands Sunday, Sept. 17.

Schumacher, 29, finished the Olympic course (1500 meter swim, 24.8-mile bike and 10K/6.2-mile run) in 2:17:36, about nine minutes behind the winner, Jaqueline Godbe of the U.S., who clocked 2:08.27.

Schumacher finished the swim in 23:42, the bike portion in 1:07.29 and the run in 39:17. Her time this year was four minutes faster than her finish in last year’s ITU Final in Cozumel, Mexico, where she placed 14th.

She said before the race she was hoping to break 40 minutes in the run, which she accomplished.

The Rotterdam course was flat, with a “technical” bike course that wound through the city, following Maas riverfront bike paths, and a run course that followed and crossed various waterways in the downtown area of the city.
