Otis Elmer Banta, 92, of Crawfordsville died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.

He was born June 10, 1925 in Crawfordsville to Percy L. and Etta L. (Tolbert) Banta.

He has lived in Sweet Home and Crawfordsville.

Mr. Banta worked in the shipyards in Portland as a young man. He was a logging superintendent for Clear Lumber until he retired.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working puzzles and reading.

Mr. Banta is survived by children Kim Banta and Becky Richards of Sweet Home, Wendy Banta of Crawfordsville and Shane Banta of Tiller; brother Oren Banta of Eugene; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemarie Banta; son Terry Banta; and siblings Orval Banta, Leo Banta, Hubert Banta, Leroy Banta, Bessie Nichols, Jessie Johnson, Lenore Clem and Louise King.

A graveside service was held Friday, Sept. 29, at Union Cemetery in Crawfordsville.

Sweet Home Funeral Chapel handled the arrangements.
