Parton program helps early reading

Re: “Test scores put SH behind rest of state again” (Sept. 20): The New Era reported that our school district continues to score poorly in English language arts, math, and science, compared against statewide scores.

Statistics show that early reading enhances a child’s ability to achieve academic success. Children that read proficiently by third grade have a much greater chance of ultimately graduating high school than those that do not.

The Rotary Club of Sweet Home sponsors the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. This great program provides an age-appropriate book each month to children ages 0-5. Free!

Please support this program and scholarships for local high school graduates by attending Sweet Home Rotary events throughout the year - such as a Halloween pumpkin carving on Oct. 28, and the Texas Hold ’Em Tournament on Nov. 11 - and look for us as vendors at several community events.
