Fire on Cedar

Firefighters extinguish a fire at 1610 Cedar St., home to three adults The fire destroyed the garage and some damage to the house. Fire officials estimated the damage at $70,000 to the structures and $60,000 to contents, primarily in smoke damage inside the house. Firefighters responded to the fire at 2 a.m. on Feb. 2. The family had put ashes in a metal can and taken it out to a plastic rubbish can the next morning, said Fire Chief Dave Barringer. That can had grass and leaves in it. The origin of the fire was the can. The property is owned and occupied by Barbara Marshall and Richard Kaloustian. The fire department responded with six vehicles and 11 firefighters. No one was injured. Disaster responders with the American Red Cross responded at approximately 4 a.m. to provide resources to help with immediate basic needs, including temporary housing, food, clothing, comfort kids, information about recovery services and health and mental services.
