Ex-Husky Colton Schilling qualifies for NCAA nationals

February 28, 2018

Former Sweet Home wrestler Colton Schilling wins the PAC-12 141-pound championship Sunday, Feb. 25 at Oregon State University. Wrestling for Cal Poly, Schilling, a senior, qualified for the NCAA Division I nationals for the second time. He won a major decision over Cal State Bakersfield's Russell Rohfling, racking up four takedowns, six near-fall points and a riding-time point to win 15-6. He beat OSU's Jack Hathaway 4-1 to make the final. Going into the PAC-12 tournament, all of Schilling's wins this season had come by falls, a technical fall and two major decisions – no decisions. He had won five matches in a row and his last eight wins were by fall. This year's NCAA finals will be held March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio. Schilling's younger brother Tyler, sophomore, placed fifth at 133 pounds after losing 2-0 to nationally ranked Sean Nickell of Bakersfield in the consolation semis, just missing nearfall points in the final seconds.
