Cheerleaders' first local comp draws crowd, runs smoothly

Cheerleaders from around Oregon gather on the mat for an awards presentation following a competition in the Sweet Home High School gym Saturday, Dec. 15. Some 25 cheer teams participated in the event. The total number attending was not available. The competition is a first in Sweet Home cheer history. Proceeds from the event benefit the program and will help send the varsity cheer team to a national competition in February.

The Sweet Home High School cheer team hosted its first ever cheer competition Saturday, filling the main gym.

A total of 25 teams, including three from Sweet Home, attended the competition.

"I thought it went really well," said Coach Amber Rosa. "The judges told us it was one of the best they've been to," and it was hard to tell it was the first time.

As it turned out, she said, she only faced a couple of tiny things.

The Sweet Home minis team placed second in its category. The youth squad finished first. The junior high team did not perform a full routine so did not place.
