Snow concerns give way to near-perfect weather for Sweet Heart Run

Concerns about ice and snow melted away into a "fantastic" day for a race Saturday, as local runners turned out for the annual Sweet Heart Run.

"The race was fantastic," said Larry Horton of the Rotary Club, which partnered with city staff to put on the event.

"I think we were all very pleasantly surprised when only 14 pre-registered runners didn't show up. And then we had approximately that same amount register on the day of the race."

Pete Hansen of Forest Grove won the 5K race in 20:55.7, followed by Ethan Hurst, 14, of Sweet Home, who ran 21:25.6.
