SH falls to Valley Catholic in baseball

Sweet Home lost 8-1 to Valley Catholic in baseball Thursday, April 18.

The week was a bye in Sweet Home's league schedule, and the Huskies traveled to Beaverton to face Valley Catcholic.

Zach Luttmer scored in the first inning after singling to reach base. He advanced to second on a wild pitch. Colton Smith singled on a hard ground ball to right field, and Luttmer scored on the throw.

In the bottom of the fourth, Valley Catholic tied the game with a single, a hit by pitch and two errors then went ahead on a walk.

Valley Catholic led 3-1 at the end of the fourth and scored five more runs in the sixth inning.

Hitting for Sweet Home were Nate Virtue, Luttmer, Smith, Travis Thorpe and Austin Olin.

William Weber led at the plate for Valley Catholic going 2-4 with an RBI.

On the mound, Smith went five inning, giving up five hits, two walks and three earned runs with five strikeouts. In relief, Zach Zanona gave up three hits and one earned run with one strikeout.

For Valley Catholic, Will Schultheis threw a complete game, giving up five hits, two walks and one earned run with three strikeouts.

Sweet Home opened its series at home with Cascade Monday, winning 2-1. A detailed report will appear next week.

The Huskies will visit Cascade at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and host Cascade at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Next week, the Huskies will travel to Sisters Monday, host Sisters at 4:30 p.m. May 1 and travel to Sisters May 2. The following week, the Huskies will face fifth-ranked Newport in their final three-game series of the season.

The Huskies are ranked seventh in the state and are in third place in the Oregon West Conference with an 8-1 record.
