Kenneth M. LaFond, 86, a former Sweet Home resident, died June 4, 2019 in Utah.

He was born Feb. 13, 1933 in Lebanon to Lauren and Leanore LaFond. He was one of four siblings.

Mr. LaFond served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He lived in Sweet Home for over 20 years with his wife, Betty.

He was well known as he walked the streets of Sweet Home, waving at everyone. He was known as “Mr. Wavy,” “Waving Willie” and the “Ambassador of Elm St.” He loved people and said that he waved to them because everyone needed to be loved and feel that they were important. He was well known and well loved.

Mr. LaFond is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Catherine LaFond and Mary Stevens; stepchildren Pam Helms, Gayle Robertson, Don and Darryl Sprecher; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard; and a sister, Vi LaFond.

He was preceded in death by his brother Ray.
