Youth Advisory Committee to host Leadership Summit
July 3, 2019
The Sweet Home Youth Advisory Council is offering its second annual Youth Leadership Summit.
The Saturday, July 27, event is open to all junior high- and high school-age students, including those who graduated in 2019.
The goal of the event is to reach out to youth and provide them with experiences that might help in developing leadership skills.
The members of the YAC, whose purpose is to advise the City Council on matters relating to youth, recognize that most local leaders are individuals that have identified a need in the community and stepped forward, said City Councilor Lisa Gourley, adviser for the group.
“They are just good people doing what needs to be done. These decisions to serve in the community are life-changing events that benefit the quality of living in our communities.”
The YAC believe that sharing these experiences with their community helps strengthen the future success of youths, Gourley said.
The YAC is partnering with the Sweet Home School District, Rotary Club and Linn County Parks. This year’s event will be held at Cascadia State Park.
A bus will leave Sweet Home High School at 8:45 a.m. and return at 3 p.m.
Sign-ins and organizing begin at the park at 9 a.m., and the program kicks off at 10 a.m.
The YAC has scheduled guest speakers and activities. Snacks and lunch will be provided.
Those interested in attending must preregister. Forms are available at the city library, chamber office, the Boys and Girls Club and the city website under YAC. The website also includes a video link.
