A Springfield man died in a single-vehicle crash on Brush Creek Road near the intersection of Childers Road, southwest of Sweet Home, early Sunday morning. the Linn County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The driver, Jackie Saari, 27, was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of emergency medical personnel.

Linn County deputies and medics responded to the crash at 2:09 a.m. A passerby reported the crash.

Involved was a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Saari. A passenger, James Randall Wilson, 35, of Springfield suffered “significant” injuries and was transported to River Bend Hospital in Springfield, accoring to the Sheriff’s Office.

Saari had been traveling north on Brush Creek Road, said Linn County Sheriff Jim Yon, when, an investigation showed, he failed to negotiate a curve and drove onto the gravel shoulder and over-corrected his steering, causing the vehicle to roll multiple times before coming to rest on its wheels.

Both Saari and Wilson were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, Yon said. Wilson had to be extricated from the vehicle prior to being transported by EMS to River Bend Hospital.

Yon said it is believed both alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash.

Deputies were assisted by members of Sweet Home Fire and Ambulance District and Mohawk Valley Fire District, Sweet Home Funeral Chapel and AA Towing.

Yon said an investigation is continuing.
