Nate Virtue to play in All-Star football classic

NATE VIRTUE, here hauling in a pass against Banks last season, has been named to play in the annual East West All-Star Football Game.

Sweet Home High School graduate Nate Virtue will play in the annual East West All-Star Football Game Aug. 3 in Baker City.

The Shriners host all-star football players from the 1A through the 4A each year to benefit the patients of the Shriners Hospital for Children. Prior to traveling to Baker City, players will visit the Portland Shrine Hospital.

Virtue played wide receiver, offensive linebacker and running back at SHHS. As a senior on offense, he had 31 receptions, 665 yards and 10 touchdowns. On defense, he had 64 solo tackles, 24 assists, 11.5 sacks, 23 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 17 quarterback hits and 23 quarterback hurries.

Against Philomath, he had five receptions for 199 yards and four touchdowns. Against Cascade, he had 12 solo tackles, four assists, one sack, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

As a senior, he was honorable mention all-state wide receiver and first-team all-state linebacker his senior year and was Oregon West Defensive Player of the Year. He was named first-team all-league wide receiver and linebacker.

As a junior, Virtue was second-team all-league wide receiver and linebacker.

Virtue also played basketball and baseball. He played in the 2019 4A All Star Series on the South Team. He was first-team all-league infielder and third-team all-state infielder. His junior year, he was a first-team all-league infielder.

Virtue is working as a material handler at LR Brabham Electric in Springfield. He intends to enroll in the Electrical Apprenticeship Program and become an electrician.
