Sweet Home Sr. American JBO finishes third at state

Sweet Home finished third in the state Senior American (grades 7-8) tournament held Friday through Sunday in Oregon City. The team also won the Sportsmanship Award. The team beat Roosevelt 12-8 but lost to North Marion 18-11 Friday. It fought its way back with a 16-3 win over Wilsonville and a 3½-hour game, winning 29-18, against Banks Saturday before losing 11-10 to North Marion Sunday to place third. Valley League rival Stayton won the tournament. Swet Home had nine home runs over the fence, more than any other team in the tournament. Casey Valloni hit four; Kaden Zajic, three with a grand slam; and Huston Holly, two with a grand slam. The Junior Baseball Organization posted to Facebook: “Great job, Coach Holly, for instilling great character and sportsmanship in this group of young men.”
