A capacity crowd got serious Saturday at the 16th annual Trees for Scholarships auction, giving what organizer MarySue Reynolds said was the "very best year ever."

"We grossed $43,500," Reynolds said, adding that expenses to put on the event run about $8,000. The 16 Christmas trees, decorated by local designers, sold for prices ranging from $600 to $4,000.

"The funds we raised last night, in addition to earnings we use from the many Endowed Scholarships we manage and from donations given to the Sweet Home Alumni Foundation, will provide scholarships to every qualified student that applie...
