Kids Christmas Store big success

December 25, 2019

The fifth annual Kids Free Christmas Store was a huge success again this year.

On Saturday, Dec. 14, 147 kids 12 and under shopped for the relatives they live with. Over 825 gifts were selected by the kids.

This year we knew Dutch Bros was supplying the coffee and hot chocolate but they called on Dec. 13 and said we were selected by the Sweet Home staff to buy $500 more gifts for the Kids Store.

This event is sponsored solely by local businesses and individuals, too many to mention individually in this letter, as the list is too long to include in a letter to the editor, per The New Era’s policy.

The committee consists of 30 volunteers that register, supply a personal shopper for each child and the gift wrapping area. Kids have a craft area, while they wait their turn.

There are also many donated, yet used, items that are not included for the Kids Store that are given away for free.

The first Kids Free Christmas Store was held at the American Legion on Long Street. Since then and for the past four years, Pastor Brian Hotrum of the Evangelical Church has been more than generous supplying the spacious gym for the Kids Store.
